WELCOME EVENING

TENBY CAMERA CLUB NEWS

The club met on Thursday 6th September in St. Florence Hall , a welcome evening for the start of the winter programme .

It was pleasing to see several new faces who may be tempted to join the camera club. Chairman, Dave Lewis, gave a warm welcome to everyone and updated everyone with club news and successes. This included a belated presentation of the plaque for “print of the year” to Cheryl Hewitt for her image “ Storm Ophelia at Church Rock” .

Programme Secretary, Charlie Kidd then took over to report on the programme for 2018/2019. Running through week by week , he explained who the speakers were and their backgrounds in photography . There is a super mix of speakers, competitions and workshops planned . Further details can be viewed on the Tenby Camera Club Website .

Internal Competition Secretary, Dave Marriot carried on with explanations about future competitions, new rules for entering, mini competition changes and a new competition later in the year “The Hexagon “ More details nearer the time !

After the break , Club member Mike Cullis gave an interesting appraisal of mirrorless cameras compared to the conventional mirrored DSLR . Mike has been testing out the new G9, one of the top Panasonic mirrorless cameras. Mike is an experienced Canon user so would give the Panasonic camera a good workout. He was very impressed with the mirrorless cameras and their new lens ranges . They are much lighter and less obtrusive with excellent image stabilisation.

Both Canon & Nikon are also developing their potential niche in the market with new mirrorless equipment. It was decided that mirrorless is definitely a future top market but traditional cameras will still have their place for now. We then had a slideshow of images taken with the Panasonic G9 to illustrate how versatile it is . Many thanks to Mike for keeping members up to date with developments in that field.

On Thursday 13th September there will be a mini competition & the theme is “monochrome” ( entries max 4 images each, image size of 1600 x 1200 pixels ) After in house scoring, there will be critique of a few selected images afterwards. It is also hand-in for the first open competition. Further details of all competitions & rules can be found on the website .

Visitors are very welcome , always good to see what the club does !
