RPS VISIT

TENBY CAMERA CLUB NEWS

On Thursday 30th November Tenby Camera Club welcomed Dr Michael Pritchard and Nicola Young. Dr Michael Pritchard, the RPS Chief Executive introduced the club to the RPS. The Royal Photographic Society exists to promote photography and image-making and to support photographers in realising their potential, irrespective of their level of knowledge, equipment or skills. The Society also acts as a public advocate for photog-raphy and photographers. Michael spoke about the history of the RPS, illustrated with vin-tage photographs, from the days when Prince Albert supported the society through to de-velopment of colour photography and modern day work.
There will be an interesting permanent exhibition next year in the V & A museum in Lon-don with historic prints, equipment and contemporary work.
Nicola Young, Volunteer Support Manager, took over to inform us of the working practices of the RPS . It is a membership organisation working for their members and public benefit through education and pursuing photographers’ rights .
We were introduced to Trevor James, Distinctions Officer for Wales and David Paskins, the Regional Organiser for Wales.
After a break, Michael introduced us to the distinctions which can be attained, including the Licentiate, Associate & Fellow of the RPS . An excellent display of previous winning panels were shown covering a very wide range of topics . Very inspirational .
The RPS has a very informative website for further information.

On the 7th December the club’s Wildlife Competition will be judged . Guests welcome.
