ROY CARR
TENBY CAMERA CLUB NEWS
On November 16th, Tenby Camera Club was treated to an excellent presentation from photographer Roy Carr . Born in Hull, and brought up just outside of Middlesbrough in the NE of England , Roy still has his heart in landscapes there . However, now living in South Wales , he is developing his passion for capturing what his eye sees & loves around him in the wonderful Welsh countryside . Planning trips around the UK , staying in remote locations , willing to hike challenging distances and terrain all makes his Landscape photography quite unique .
The presentation was titled 40/40 which entailed 40 colour prints and 40 mono prints , mainly of landscapes. Many images were taken at sunrise with swirls of mist and beautiful gentle colours . Unfortunately, most of us in our busy lives don’t get to experience these views. Roy encouraged us to get out there early & to see our local views in literally a different light .
We were treated to a tour of the UK from his much loved North East up to Scotland , The Lake District , The Peak District , Dorset , Devon and of course all round the Welsh Coast & inland too. Several places of interest were revisited in different seasons with a lovely variance of colours . Advice on technique on “making that photo” from watching for clouds with character , reflections, angles to shoot , camera settings , filters all helped club members to learn .
Within the mono images shown were Roy’s award winning panel of 12 images which qualified him for an AWPF .
Roy’s current project is “A year in their lives” which entails following four sheep farms in South Wales. Capturing the lifestyle of farming life of the people & animals, through difficult, challenging and rewarding times throughout the year, provides a different sort of photographic challenge to landscapes. we were treated to a preview of some of the images which will eventually be in an exhibition in Aberdare in 2018.
A very appreciative round of applause was a sign on how much the talk was enjoyed and how inspiring it was.
On Thursday 23rd November is the judging of our “Panels” competition .
