PANELS COMP

TENBY CAMERA CLUB NEWS

Tenby Camera Club welcomed on Thursday, 23rd November Roy Thomas APAGB Hon.FWPF, to judge the Panels competition. Roy is a respected judge on both the International and National Circuits.

The panel competition was being judged on the criteria needed to obtain an AWPF. First it had to be technically perfect and then coherent. There should be the same sort of tones, mounting and the images should not be too similar. Size of the images are also important and should hang together well.
Relaxed and knowledgable, Roy explained before hand the different awards available for Panels and the different criteria needed.

His first task was to critique the 8 Print Panels entered. The subject matter was varied , including birds, dogs, sea action and castles. He awarded Al Rees with her “Avocet” Panel top marks of 20 & first place. In 2nd place with 19 was Roy Peters and his panel “ A Working Life” . In 3rd place with 18 points was “The Life of Brian” compiled by Dave Bolton. Very worthy winners.

The Digital entries, of which there were 12, again had a good cross section of subject matter, including creative, seascapes, canoeing, squirrels and horses . Again Roy was impressed with the standard entered. He gave Dave Bolton full marks, 20, and 1st place for his original creative entry “Mary the Final Victim”. In 2nd place was Jan Sullivan with her horses panel titled “Lydstep Point to Point” , scoring 19. In 3rd place was “It’s all about nuts”, scoring 18 from Charlie Kidd.

Members enjoyed the constructive comments and humour during the evening. Roy was warmly thanked for his fair judging.

Next at club on Thursday, 30th November Dr Michael Pritchard, Director General for the Royal Photographic Society and Nicola Young, Volunteer Support Manager RPS will be making a presentation about the RPS. This is a good opportunity to better understand the workings of the Royal Photographic Society.
