Distinctions & Awards
TENBY AND DISTRICT CAMERA CLUB
Thursday 16th February club night was about Distinctions and Awards, Chairman Roy Packer introduced the three members of the club who would be giving the presentation, each of them being award holders with the various photographic bodies.
Neil Thomas opened the proceedings showing members the panel of twelve images which gained him his recent AWPF distinction and explained how he went about gaining it, and how and what the judging panels are looking for within the Welsh Photographic Society.
Gill MacKay followed Neil explaining the various competitions that the club entered and how those images of the members can be forwarded to other external competitions for the individual, such as the Welsh Salon, this event being a showcase of the individuals best work and an opportunity to challenge themselves to gain a photographic distinction called AWPF, or the Association of the Welsh Photographic Society. The distinction is assessed annually and is open to all photographers throughout the world. Using a Power Point presentation Gill went on to explain many of the other awards available to members including those from the PAGB, the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain and the RPS, the Royal Photographic Society.
The final presenter was Roy Peters who displayed his images and explained to the membership how his images/panel was judged in the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain.
Various Salon catalogues were on display for members to view, giving an idea of what ideas and standards are required.
Roy Packer, Chairman thanked all contributors to the evenings talk and hoped it would spur members into having a go at submitting images for distinctions and awards in the future.
