ROY CARR
TENBY CAMERA CLUB NEWS
Tenby Camera Club welcomed Roy Carr at their meeting on the 25th October.
Roy called his talk “His Outdoor Life” and he told tales of his outdoor adventures through the medium of photography. Roy has enjoyed photography for over 30 years and uses it to map his love of the great outdoors both at home and abroad. Originally from the NE of England he is now based in South Wales.
The first section was Roy’s journey of a solo cycle ride from Cardiff to the South of Morocco, illustrated with photographs of special moments using landscapes and portraits. It was a journey of 4,500 miles, through mountains, villages, gorges and beautiful valleys, in heat and cold , sampling local life along the way. Certainly we were treated to Moroccan sights not normally on the tourist trail.
While having a break we were able to view the many prints on display, including interesting mono work, tranquil reflective lakes and scary mountain roads .
Roy spoke of his love of hiking, especially to the wilder places of Britain and beyond. Another pursuit which was illustrated with photos was his interest in climbing. Climbs captured locally of Saddle Head and Huntsman’s leap, showed the strength and fitness of the climbers (and slight craziness to us non-climbers). Great rock formations in Derbyshire and The Lake District were captured from unusual angles. After a fall & injury the climbing activity had to be curtailed and Roy looked to other pursuits. Hiking still, but then sailing became the next excitement.
Photographs of Dorset and many of Scotland completed the talk making many of us wanting to visit these places .
Roy’s obvious appreciation of the great outdoors was beautifully gathered into the world of photography for us all to enjoy.
Next week on Thursday, 1st November is the judging of the Landscapes competition, see the TCC website for details. All welcome.
