3rd OPEN
TENBY CAMERA CLUB NEWSLETTER
Judging of the 3rd Open Competition took place on the 22nd March. Our judge for the evening was Tim Fearnside, a Swansea based WPF judge. Tim is an experienced photographer who has held the presidency of the WPF in the past.
Beginning with the 20 print entries, Tim praised the standard of entries which covered an excellent cross section of topics and styles. We were given some good pointers on what to watch out for. For instance, consider simplicity, perspectives, details within the image, watch out for distractions which can draw the eye away from the story you are telling.
Tim gave a wide range of marks from 13 to 20 out of 20. First place went to Gill MacKay with “Guitar Man” a stunning detailed mono shot of a busker. In second place with a beautifully captured “Siskin” was Charlie Kidd and in third place was Cheryl Hewitt with “Wet Feet”, a Robin standing on Stackpole Weir.
Digital images of which there were 23 entries included birdlife, portraits of times gone by, dogs, sheep and landscapes. First place went to Anthony Thomas with “Red Kite in flight”, a sky shot of this beautiful bird. Anthony is a new member this year and a dark horse too! A talent to watch out for. In second place was Roy Peters with a haunting picture “Thai Fishing Boats” .Finally in third place was Al Rees with “Walking Tall”, a dachshund shot creating many “ahhhs” from the audience.
Next Thursday on March 29th is the AGM for the club.
