CARMARTHEN 4 WAY BATTLE

TENBY CAMERA CLUB NEWS

The 8th of March saw many club members travelling to attend the Carmarthen Photographic Society’s 4-way Battle.
The Battle consists of the four clubs providing, in advance, 10 digital images each, of any style or subject matter. These images are then shown to the audience and critiqued and scored by the invited judge.
The clubs competing were Carmarthen, Tenby, Cardigan and New Quay. The judge for the evening was Brian Coleman AFIAP, AWP.

There was a very interesting array of subjects, including still life, landscapes ( with Venice featuring several times), wildlife, sport and portraits.

Brian gave each image a critique on which improvements could be made, for instance, cropping better or standing in a slightly different position.

His marking ranged from 15 to 20 out of 20. Out of the 40 entries only 3 images were awarded the top score of 20 and 6 gained a score of 19.

In the first half Carmarthen were clear leaders but after the break Tenby Camera Club fought back. Two members of the club were given 20’s and that really helped , but with good consistent scoring throughout, Tenby were declared the winners with 178 out of 200, Carmarthen in second with 176, third with 167 was Cardigan and in fourth, New Quay with 164.

The club members for Tenby who attained top marks were Al Rees with a dog action image “Jeepers Creepers you frightened me” and Cheryl Hewitt with a wild seascape taken in the Ophelia storm , “ Ophelia at Church Rock” .

Thanks go to…… Carmarthen Photographic Society for providing a super buffet and hosting the event. Brian Coleman for concise and interesting judging.
