NATURE COMP

TENBY CAMERA CLUB NEWS

The Nature Competition was judged on the 29th November. The judge was the well-known award winning wildlife photographer Jenny Hibbert from Bridgend Camera Club. Over the years she has gained extensive knowledge of the subject.

Jenny had carefully appraised the images prior to the evening, and gave her critique in a clear & concise manner. She gave helpful advice how the images could be improved both in camera & in post production. Nature competitions are very challenging and there was a wide range of subject matter and styles. The marking range out of 20, varied from 13 to 20. The quality of the top contenders was very close and made Jenny’s choice difficult.

There were 21 print entries ranging from butterflies to birds, gorillas and insects. With 20 points, Al Rees took the top spot with a stunning photo “The Owl Fly”. In 2nd place was Neil Thomas , also scoring 20 points with “Osprey” and 3rd with 19 points and “Kingfisher caught at Sunrise” was Charlie Kidd.

There were 27 digital entries, lots of birds but also animals like ground squirrel & hare. In first place was Neil Thomas , 20 points with “Kingfisher alcedinidae” . Roy Peters scored 20 points with “Sulphur Tuft Fungus” and was placed 2nd. Jan Sullivan, also with 20 points , gained 3rd place with “ Snack time for the Souslik”.

Next week ( 6th December) we have club member Alun Richardson talking about his Ghurka Everest Expedition. His career as a high mountain guide and a photojournalist for several climbing magazines takes him all over the world. His work allows him access to parts of the world that the rest of us can only dream of and his photography captures the majesty and remoteness of these unique places.
