4th September: Welcome to Tenby & District camera club

Tenby & District Camera Club held its first meeting of the new season. We
welcomed 32 keen photographers, returning members and new guests, all very
keen to join us for what promises to be a great season ahead.
We started the evening with Dave Bolton, our Programme Secretary, outlining the
events planned for the new season. Dave has worked very hard over the last few
months, preparing and arranging a brilliant array of presenters and workshops that
cover most aspects of photography. Something for everyone.
We start the new programme next Thursday, 11th September, with one of our own
members, the excellent & award winning photographer Roy Peters.
Roy, a well respected photographer, has travelled extensively in the USA and will
share his experiences there through his photography.
Francis White, our internal competitions secretary, highlighted several new rules
we must be aware of when entering the forthcoming competitions and how to
enter by using WeTransfer. We have 11 internal competitions available to enter. The
list is on our website.
During the summer break this year there were several events and trips out locally,
organised by member Ali Rees . Upton Castle Gardens, Picton Castle Gardens and
Great Wedlock Deer Park provided members with lots of opportunities for
photography with the obligatory refreshments ! A great source of fun too .
In the second half of the evening Cheryl Hewitt gave a short presentation on the
super Summer School which ran from May to August. Member Jan Sullivan took
on the awesome summer school reins, setting up & providing members with a
wide range of projects.
The theme was using your Smart Phone Camera and processing using the free
Snapseed App.
WhatsApp was used to communicate between the 24 members who signed up to
the challenge.
Jan posted a comprehensive set of videos on how to improve your photographs
using Snapseed. There was also excellent advice on how to approach taking your
photos on a phone. There were 2 competitions, ‘Landscapes’ and ‘Summer’ set up
to put all that new knowledge to work . The images were shown on the ‘big’ screen
in the hall and they were impressive. It is good that the smart phones, which
people have with them most of the time, can produce such good quality images.
Jan and Ali were warmly thanked for their exceptional efforts to provide a source of
learning & development of skills in a friendly and sociable way.
