TENBY CAMERA CLUB NEWS

After an enjoyable festive break, Tenby Camera Club dived right back into the thick of it with the judging of the 2nd Open Competition. An Open Competition gives everyone a wide range of subject matter and styles, from portraits , landscapes, all manner of wildlife , macro and creative. This was reflected in the very interesting entries submitted in both the print and digital sections.

We warmly welcomed our judge, Rob Mitchell, to the club. Born & based in Swansea, Rob has a wealth of experience to aid his judging, having an MA in Photography. His career was in teaching photography for 30 years, he is now retired but still very active on the judging circuit.

He spent time in his judging explaining what he looks for in a photograph. He looks for the story it tells which will make the image come alive.

The prints were assessed first. There were 22 entries covering colour and B&W , including images of dogs, geese, buildings and welsh landscapes.
The results were 1st with a maximum score of 20 “Ironmen Sprint for the Swim” by Cheryl Hewitt, 2nd with 19 points was “Storm Ophelia at Church Rock” also by Cheryl Hewitt, and 3rd with 18 points, “Tessa” by Bo Anderson.

There were 29 digital entries with sports, landscapes and still life all featuring .
In 1st place with a maximum score of 20 was Dave Bolton with “ Focused”. A stunning image of a greyhound at full pelt. Bo Anderson achieved a 2nd place scoring 19 points with “Bobby in the Spotlight”. Gill Mackay scored 19 with her canoeist image “Number 75” and was placed 3rd.

An excellent set of images, to see the winning entries have look at the Tenby Camera Club website. There is further information on the programme of events too.

Next week sees one of our members, Alun Richardson, ready to entrall us with tales of his adventures. His career as a high mountain guide and a photojournalist for several climbing magazines takes him all over the world. His work allows him access to parts of the world that the rest of us can only dream of and his photography captures the majesty and remoteness of these unique places. A talk not to be missed. Guests always welcome.
