Pair Of Aces Competition

On the 19 February 2017 Tenby and District Camera Club took part in the Welsh Photographic Federation Pair of Aces competition. This is the Premier WPF competition of the year and the top two clubs will go on to represent the WPF in the PAGB Interclub competitions later in the year.

The competition has two parts:

The Ace of Prints for qualification for the PAGB Interclub Print Competition.

The Ace of Clubs for qualification for the PAGB Interclub PDI Competition.

TCC did not enter the Ace of Prints as last year the club only had an image bank of 25 prints to go to the competition and it was felt that as over the past year we have seen changes in the subject matter that judges seem to prefer, to mount a strong challenge the club needed an image bank of at least 40 prints with a wide variety of subject matter to be able to respond to the first round judging. It was felt that from the prints made available for selection we could not select a bank of 40 images of the required competition standard and subject matter.

The Ace of Clubs competition is judged over two rounds, each of twelve images, with the second round consisting of a maximum of six images from the first round and six new ones. Images are marked out of 15.

TCC scored 144 points in the first round and 149 points in the second round giving us a total of 293 and second place. The competition was won by Inn Focus with 298.

Dave Bolton's image 'Pillion Passenger' was voted best Mono.

TCC had now qualified for the PAGB as a matter of right, unlike last year when we qualified by default. Congratulations to all 10 authors whose images were used in the competition and also to Neil Thomas, the clubs External Competition Secretary, on a tremendous result in his first attempt at the Aces.
