Mono Competition

On Thursday 23rd February Tenby and District Camera Club welcomed Peter Young, the Chairman of Cymru Monochrome, as our judge for the clubs Mono competition.

Peter gave the members a resume of his photographic history and informed the members that he did not use digital cameras in his Mono work but was a film and darkroom aficionado.

Peter judged the prints first and there was an excellent entry of 28 prints. Peter's judging and critique was constructive and he passed on several tips that good Mono prints should have in their make up. He avoided what many other judges do and did not bunch his marks together to save the authors blushes.

At the end of his deliberations he awarded the top three places to:
1st Gill MacKay "No To Trump"
2nd Charles Kidd with "Armed & Dangerous"
3rd Jan Sullivan with "Free To Roam".

After a break for refreshments Peter continued with the judging of the digital which had 37 entries. Again his judging was in a very similar vein to that of the prints with marks being awarded over a wide range.

His final selection of the top three PDI's were:
1st Roy Peters with "The Passing Of Time"
2nd Gill MacKay with "Oh No"
3rd Dave Lewis with "Misty Harbour Liaison".

The Chairman thanked Peter for taking the time to travel down to Tenby and his excellent critique and advice.
