GARY SHINNER
TENBY CAMERA CLUB NEWSLETTER
On the 15th March, Tenby Camera Club welcomed Gary Shinner whose talk was titled “Success and failure path since 2007, an in-depth look at what worked and failed”. Gary has been a member of Velindre & Trostre Camera Club since1991, and this has given him inspiration to develop his photographic skills and to strive for qualifications.
Gary documented his progress to achieving distinctions which are EFIAP/b, EPSA, AWPF, BPSA. Displaying prints of his work, Gary talked through them analytically, showing how some were successful but also why some were failures. Advice on why some images can do well in mono but not in colour and how to choose photos for a panel were topics discussed.
Gary has had many international successes via the PSA & FIAP, We were shown an excellent panel of one of his favourite subject matters, Architecture. This panel was of 12 mono architectural images of the Valencia Science Park from October 2014 and with which he gained his 'Associate' of the WPF.
Gary emphasised how important it is to not to be demoralised by a few failures. Look at the work and see if any processing could help or reshoot at a different time or angle. Judges all have individual opinions, likes & dislikes. Just try the image again in a different competition to see how it does. Gary has a tenacious attitude from which we can all learn. #determination!
This Thursday, 22nd March, it is the judging of the 3rd Open Competition. It is usual for there to be a wide range of topics & styles so come along as a guest and see what you think of the entries. Further details on the club website.
