A superb start to the presentations of 2025 with Tenby members Paul Richards and Liz Wallis captivating a full house !
Their new presentation, fresh off the camera and computer was titled ‘Winter Adventures in Scandinavia” . And what adventures they were……
The talk documented four winter trips to Northern Norway, where the conditions were incredibly harsh, down to -30 C, as they were high above in the Arctic Circle.
The talk had exceptional images, peppered with video clips, capturing the stark and beautiful land of Norway .
While planning the trips they had a wish list of things they wanted to see & do. Just one was not achieved but next time …..However they saw King Eider Ducks, the Northern Lights, Cranes in the snow, and the highlight, Musk Ox up in the highest snow covered peaks.
Travelling around the country proved to be hazardous and difficult with vast amounts of snow and ice, extremely low temperatures to be contended with .
Bird life was plentiful with cliffs packed with kittiwakes, well camouflaged ptarmigans, striking eider ducks, purple sandpipers, cranes dancing in the snow and great crested grebes courting ! Arctic Hares out in the snow and Reindeer too.
They both had a wonderful time sledding with huskies, spending time understanding the way of life for the local people in such a harsh environment. Dog National Sled racing and the controversy that followed proved to be interesting .
Their great wish was to see Musk Ox and they camped! In snow, in temperatures of -25C with few home comforts - well actually none! However the resulting images of the musk oxen , an animal of the ice age , were outstanding. Truly a special time for Liz & Paul and for us too.
They picked up a cruise with some luxury back to Bergen, showing us some wonderful landscapes .
The evening was packed with breathtaking images and Paul and Liz freely shared their expertise on camera settings, camera gear and it’s care in low temperatures, wildlife behaviour and planning how to get the shot you desire. And to follow your dreams ……..
